Local Wimberley Guide
A short, honest, locally curated guide — what we actually recommend to friends and family.
Wimberley packs a lot into a small footprint: swimming holes, art galleries, scratch kitchens, Hill Country wineries, and a Saturday market that has people driving in from three states over. This page covers the highlights. For the full directory of shops, restaurants, and events, the Wimberley Chamber of Commerce keeps the most current listings.
Right Off the Square
You don't have to leave the property to find a great morning. Wimberley Square is two minutes from your door, and almost everything below is walkable.
- Coffee & pastries: Several independent coffee shops within a block — easy first stop after check-out.
- Shops & galleries: Around two dozen independent boutiques, art galleries, and antique shops circle the Square. Plan an unhurried hour.
- Restaurants: Casual lunch spots, Tex-Mex, BBQ, and a few sit-down options for dinner — most within a 5-minute walk.
Shop the Square
Wimberley's Square is a working downtown of independent boutiques, galleries, and home goods shops — most within a 5-minute walk of your suite. A few local favorites we send guests to first:
Henson Square — boutique plaza off the main Square
A short walk from Gaines Ranch on the Square, Henson Square is a small plaza we own and have grown into a boutique destination of its own. Home of Jaclynn Renée Wine Collective, Wildflower, Texaholic, and Nightbird — plus regular live music in the plaza on weekends and event nights.
- Jaclynn Renée Wine Collective — Texas-focused tasting room from acclaimed winemaker Jackie van Sant Downes (Driftwood Estate Winery). 100% Texas fruit, women-winemaker spotlight, patio seating, live music. 103 Henson Rd.
- Wildflower Boutique — women's clothing, accessories, and gifts. One of the Square's longest-running independents. 103 Henson Rd.
- Texaholic — Texas-pride apparel, hats, and gifts (sister to Wildflower). The right stop for Lone Star souvenirs that don't feel like souvenirs. 101 Henson Rd.
- Nightbird Boutique — curated vintage and new apparel, gifts, and home goods. 105 Henson Rd.
Right downstairs — 204 Wimberley Square
You don't have to leave the building. Tarry Lifestyle + Home shares 204 Wimberley Square with us — clothing, home décor, and curated gifts.
Around the Square
Beyond Henson Square and our building, the main Square has another two dozen independent shops — art galleries, antique stores, leather goods, jewelry, kitchen shops, and bookstores. Plan an unhurried hour and let yourself wander. The Wimberley Chamber directory has the full list with current hours.
Swim & Wander
Wimberley's water is the reason a lot of people fell in love with this town. Both spots below require advance reservations in summer — book before you arrive.
- Blue Hole Regional Park — the iconic Cypress Creek swimming hole with rope swings and shaded banks. Reservations required May through September. Reserve here.
- Jacob's Well Natural Area — one of the deepest underwater caves in Texas, and a stunning spring-fed swimming spot. Strict reservation system year-round for swimming. Reserve here.
- Cypress Creek — runs straight through downtown. Free public access points along the creek for wading and kayaking.
- Pedernales Falls State Park — about 30 minutes north, big-river hiking and swimming during low-flow months. Park info & reservations.
Eat & Drink
Hill Country cooking, real BBQ, and a growing scene of scratch kitchens. A few categories to point you in the right direction:
- BBQ & Tex-Mex — the regional staples. Casual, family-friendly, often busiest on Saturdays.
- Sit-down dinner — a handful of reservation-recommended spots within walking distance of the Square. Worth booking in advance on weekends.
- Bakeries & sweets — Wimberley is a pie town. You'll find at least one shop on or near the Square that's worth the calories.
For current restaurant hours and full listings, check the Chamber directory.

- Spring (March–May): wildflowers, mild temps, fewer crowds. Our favorite season.

- Fall (September–November): Market Days in full swing, cooler evenings, harvest at the wineries.
- Winter (December–February): quietest season, lit-up Square, holiday events. Great for couples and writers.
