Our Story | Gaines Ranch on the Square in Downtown Wimberley, Texas

Gaines Ranch on the Square is the realization of a deeply personal dream for Pat and Kristie Gaines—a boutique lodging property in downtown Wimberley inspired by the original Gaines Ranch, their family’s beloved Oklahoma homestead for more than 50 years.

Their connection to Wimberley began through frequent visits to see their daughter, Shelli, and her family. During those trips, they often stayed at Cabins on the Square—then owned by the Sheffields—and quickly fell in love with the town’s charm, creative spirit, and strong sense of community.

In 2017, the opportunity arose to purchase Cabins on the Square. With Shelli’s design vision and real estate background, the Gaines family thoughtfully refreshed the cabins while preserving the warmth and simplicity that guests had always loved. Not long after, Pat and Kristie relocated from Waurika, Oklahoma, to Wimberley full-time, deepening their roots in the community they now proudly call home.

In 2025, a long-held dream became reality with the opening of Gaines Ranch on the Square—a newly built boutique property that blends modern lodging with curated retail space. The name honors their Oklahoma roots, while the vision reflects their appreciation for Wimberley’s unique culture and their passion for creating welcoming, well-designed spaces.
