From Ranch Roots to the Wimberley Square: The Gaines Family Story

Gaines Ranch on the Square is more than a boutique property—it’s a tribute to generations of family, hospitality, and hard work.

Gaines Ranch on the Square is the realization of a deeply personal dream for Pat and Kristie Gaines—a boutique property in downtown Wimberley inspired by the original Gaines Ranch, their family’s beloved Oklahoma homestead for over 50 years.

Their connection to Wimberley began through frequent visits to their daughter Shelli and her family. During those trips, they often stayed at Cabins on the Square, then owned by the Sheffields, and quickly fell in love with the town’s charm, spirit, and sense of community.

In 2017, the opportunity arose to purchase Cabins on the Square. With Shelli’s design vision and real estate background, the Gaines family lovingly updated the cabins while preserving their original warmth and simplicity. Not long after, Pat and Kristie made the move from Waurika, Oklahoma, to Wimberley full-time, deepening their ties to the community they’d grown to call home.

In 2025, they brought a long-held dream to life with the opening of Gaines Ranch on the Squarea thoughtfully designed property that blends boutique lodging with curated retail space. The name honors their Oklahoma roots, while the vision reflects their deep appreciation for Wimberley’s unique culture and their passion for creating welcoming spaces for others.

At Gaines Ranch, family and hospitality go hand in hand—and every stay is a celebration of connection, comfort, and coming home.
